The story behind Pater Arthuri

Pater Arthuri, Latin for “Father of Arthur.”

The brand began with something simple: time is the one thing that none of us get back.

For me, this watch is personal. Named after my son and built around a detail that belongs to us. It’s something we already share.

That’s why the moon sits at the centre of this collection. Not as a complication added for horological conversation, but as the heart of the dial.

Pater Arthuri isn’t being built around hype. It’s being built around memory, craft, and the idea that a watch should remind you what your time is actually for.

Time is yours…

The first collection

The debut Pater Arthuri collection is a Swiss Made moonphase watch, planned as a limited first run of 300 pieces. Two colourways share the same case, movement, and moonphase display — and read completely differently on the wrist.

Serenus

A warm champagne-copper dial paired with polished steel, a silver-blue moon and a deep navy strap. Light, restrained and quietly luminous, Serenus is the calmer expression of the first collection.

Rutilus

A deep anthracite dial that comes alive in warmer light, paired with bronze-gold case tones, a copper moon and a mushroom-grey strap. Richer, darker and more romantic, Rutilus is the more atmospheric expression of the collection.

Inside the design

Inside the design

A mechanical moonphase built with restraint — every part chosen on purpose, nothing added for effect.

The Case

Line drawing of the watch case

The Case

38.5mm across, 10.5mm thick, cut from 316L steel in a cushion form.

The top face runs as one continuous mirror-polished curve straight into the crystal — no chamfer, no break.

Lower down, the belly turns to a fine satin brush, and the line where the two finishes meet is cut razor-straight, not a bevel, just a boundary.

Rutilus carries the whole case in a bronze-gold finish; Serenus is left in raw steel.

The Crown

Line drawing of the watch crown

The Crown

A heavily fluted onion crown in mirror-polished steel, with the PA monogram set into a small polished disc at the tip.

It's a detail most people will never examine closely.

You feel it every time you wind the watch.

You notice it properly once, up close, and after that you know it's there.

The Dial

Line drawing of the watch dial

The Dial

Two guilloché textures: a deep fan-wave outer ring that catches and drops light as the wrist moves, and a finer sunray inner zone.

A single engraved channel splits them.

No numerals. No minute track.

Every baton is trapezoid-shaped, polished on top and brushed on the sides.

The Hands

Line drawing of the watch hands

The Hands

Open-tipped Breguet hands in polished steel, filled with BGW9 lume.

The hour hand stays inside the inner sunray zone.

The minute hand is longer — it crosses the engraved channel and runs out into the wave guilloché, so for one hand at least, the two zones of the dial actually touch.

The Moonphase

Line drawing of the moonphase aperture

The Moonphase

An arched aperture at 6 o'clock, framed in polished steel.

Below it, a small four-pointed star, cut into the dial.

Behind the arch, a deep aventurine disc — a blue that reads as sky rather than stone — carries a separately finished hyper-realistic moon into view.

It's a complication most watches at this price don't bother with.

Here, it's the reason the watch exists.

The Movement

Line drawing of the watch movement

The Movement

A Sellita SW280-1M inside — hand-wound, no seconds hand, with a 65-hour power reserve.

The moonphase tracks the real 29.5-day lunar cycle, accurate to within a day roughly every two and a half years.

Sellita has been building movements in La Chaux-de-Fonds since 1950, and is today one of the largest independent movement manufacturers in Switzerland — proper Swiss watchmaking, not a badge on the dial.

The Caseback

Line drawing of the watch caseback

The Caseback

No screws, no visible fixings — the caseback sitting flush against the case.

The surface runs in a fine circular satin brush.

Across it, in flowing engraved script: "Time is yours," and beneath it, five more lines — a private message, not a slogan — closing on a single four-pointed star at the base.

No monogram here.

That's already on the crown.

The Strap

Line drawing of the watch strap

The Strap

The strap will be handmade from sustainable, cruelty-free material — we’re exploring wine-industry remnants.

Finished with a traditional alligator-style emboss, soft microfibre padding and breathable lining.

20mm tapering to 18mm. Navy for Serenus, mushroom-grey for Rutilus.

The Essentials

Line drawing of watch essentials

The Essentials

A sapphire crystal up top, coated with anti-reflective treatment on both the front and the underside.

The hands carry BGW9 Super-LumiNova in a recessed channel milled into the surface; the moon is cut from a solid disc of it.

50 metres of water resistance.

300 pieces in total, 150 per colourway, each individually numbered.

Built to Swiss Made compliance.

Where the project is now

Pater Arthuri is in active development. The design is set. What's left is the unglamorous but essential part — supplier confirmation, sample approval, and the long list of small tolerances that decide whether a design on paper becomes a watch on a wrist.
